Professional Organizer Tips

ORGANIZING TIPS OF THE MONTH: JULY 2011
Essential Organizing Tools

There are myriad organizing tools. Some are consistent winners for a wide variety of projects.

  • Clear plastic bins: They stack, protect, and display what you store. Select those in sizes you can lift. Styles with latching lids work especially well.
  • Zip-sealed bags: They come in all sizes—from small enough to store a pair of earrings to large enough to store blankets. Squish the air out of them before sealing to save space.
  • Garbage can/recycling bin/donation box: All are essential tools to ensure unwanted items exit your home.
  • Label maker: This tool makes a huge difference in making it easy to find things and easy to put things back where they belong.
  • Computer and smart phones: Use the internet to find resources for donations, recycling, document shredding events and organizing products.
  • Hanging files and a place to put them: To keep papers organized, you must have a place to put files. Hanging file folders make it so much easier to find papers. There are boxes, cabinets, drawers, carts and desk top containers to hold file folders in a wide range of decorative selections.
  • Daily task list: On paper or electronically, make a list of things you need to do for the day. You will make efficient use of your time and won’t forget something important.
  • Command ® hooks: These are great for places you cannot put nails or screws—on tile, inside cabinet doors, on metal surfaces.
  • Drawer dividers: They keep drawers that hold lots of little things from becoming junk drawers.
  • Someone else: A friend can keep you on task and a professional organizer can guide you in creating organizing systems. Having another person with you when you organize makes it easier to achieve your goal.
